USCIS expanded fee waivers | Godoy Law Office Immigration Lawyers

USCIS Expanded Fee Waivers

In addition to the new fees that went into effect on April 1, 2024, USCIS has expanded fee exemptions for Special Immigrant Juveniles and victims of human trafficking, crime and domestic violence; US military service members and Afghan allies and families pursuing international adoption. Fee waivers remain available for certain applicants who demonstrate financial hardship. However, eligibility criteria and documentation requirements for fee waivers may have changed under the USCIS Fee Rule.

USCIS Expanded Fee Waivers

United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) introduced changes to its fee structure on April 1, including expanding fee waivers. This means more individuals will be eligible to have their application fees waived or reduced, making the immigration process more affordable for vulnerable populations, victims of crimes and those serving in the military.

  • Vulnerable Individuals:
Special Immigrant Juveniles, victims of human trafficking, crime and domestic violence can now apply for fee waivers more easily.
  • Heroes and Families:
US military members on active duty and Afghan allies seeking special visas may be eligible for fee waivers.
  • Adoption Families:
Families going through the international adoption process may be eligible for a fee waiver.

It’s crucial for applicants to thoroughly review the updated guidelines and consult with an immigration attorney if needed to determine their eligibility for a fee waiver.
